Great entertainment is a shoe-in in Vegas

There’s no question that I love shoes. As a matter of fact, I’ve never met a pair that I didn’t like: stilettos, wedges, slingbacks, peep-toe pumps … I’m completely obsessed with them all. My affair with the ultimate “obsessory” began at a young age, after discovering my grandmother’s shoe closet(s). The Imelda Marcos of Turner County, S.D., my grandmother had a couple of philosophies: Shoes are like sex … you can never have enough, and if you find a great pair of shoes that makes your legs look good … get them in every color. I’ve adopted those philosophies and developed a few of my own, including that the only thing better than finding a great pair of shoes on sale is finding more than one pair on sale. I also advocate buying shoes for a cause, such as for Jimmy Choo Project PEP to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Carlos Santana’s Milagro Foundation, which helps needy children. The subject of one of our features, Santana is not only a phenomenal musician, he’s also a humanitarian, and his name is synonymous with one of the hippest shoe brands around. When you buy a pair of Carlos Santana shoes, part of the proceeds goes to the Milagro Foundation. You can check Santana out at the Hard Rock Hotel this week onstage at The Joint. Starting a residency at MGM Grand this week is Recycled Percussion. The junk rock band burst onto the scene last year when they took third place on America’s Got Talent. For a behind-the-scenes look at the band that uses objects such as ladders, pots, pans and 50-gallon drums as instruments, download the app below and scan the 2-D bar code on page 30. If you’re looking for a good laugh, head to Caesars Palace on Friday for the incomparable ventriloquist and stand-up comedian Jeff Dunham. So, whatever brings you to town, make sure to take in all the city has to offer, but more importantly … do Vegas proud! And if you are a visitor on the go, stop by your concierge and pick up our sister publication, VEGAS2GO.

Cheers!
