Nick Carter

Pop star shines with his second solo endeavor

Nick Carter

Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has broken away from the pack and is touring in support of his sophomore album, I’m Taking Off. He’ll make his first stop on Jan. 28 at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Vanity nightclub, where he’ll not only perform an acoustic set but also show off his skills with a special DJ performance. He recently spoke with Las Vegas Magazine’s Kiko Miyasato about his new album and reveals if a seventh BSB release is in the works.

Q: Tell me the story behind your 2011 solo album I’m Taking Off.
A: The album is really sort of a coming out party for me. It’s my best to date. I wrote pretty much all of the songs, so I was able to put into my music all of my experiences, (from) my experiences with different writers to my different experiences in life. I was really able to pour it all into this album.

Q: Are there any tracks that are close to your heart?
A: I really love the song “Falling Down”; it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. I think every writer comes to a point in their life where they want to write a song that touches them, and that’s what that song does.

Q: Why did you wait so long to record your second
solo album?
A: It was a little bit of life, a little bit of confidence, a lot of working and making albums with the Backstreet Boys. But also feeling that I wasn’t prepared necessarily, like having life experiences to talk about.

Q: Any plans to record another Backstreet Boys album?
A: Yes, we’re actually going to jump in the studio and start to record around February or March.

Q: What’s in store for 2012?
A: I’m almost about to finish up my third screenplay and I’m getting ready to jump back onto the acting circuit, doing some auditions. It’s something that I really enjoy; I love the arts. I’m also doing my solo tour across America. In April, May and June I’m going with NKOTBSB and we’re going to Europe. You keep doing more and better and try new things. I don’t know what’s in store for me necessarily but I can say that it’s going to top anything that I’ve done in my past. That’s what it’s all about, challenging yourself mentally, physically. And to have fun, that’s what it’s all about.
