George Strait is so ridiculously successful that since the 2004 release of his collection 50 Number Ones, he’s had eight more chart-topping country hits, and at 59 years old, he shows no signs of slowing down.
Strait’s latest release, last year’s Here for a Good Time, is another rock-solid collection of crowd-pleasing tunes, and the title track just missed being his newest No. 1 hit (it only made it to the second spot). The album also continues Strait’s recent practice of co-writing songs with his son Bubba.
On tour, Strait chooses from among his enormous number of hits, giving audiences what they want to hear while also ensuring variety. This time, he’s joined by Martina McBride, a country star in her own right. “We were looking for somebody who will help make it a special night. I think Martina will definitely do that,” Strait says. A 58-time chart-topper teamed with a beautiful, golden-voiced award-winner? Sounds pretty special indeed.
