Rhumbar’s cocktail waitress is taking care of business

If you’re looking for a great outdoor lounge where you can sip on a classic mojito and puff on a cigar, then make it a point to stop by Rhumbar at The Mirage, says Shanna Settlemire, one of Rhumbar’s cocktail waitresses. With more than 40 types of rum flowing through the bar’s specialty drinks and dozens of cigars in the humidor, plus a nightly live DJ set, it’s easy to spend a grand night at Rhumbar. But you would be remiss if you didn’t also share the company of Settlemire, a small-town girl (her hometown has a population of around 5,000) with the skills of both bartender and cocktail waitress.
The Ohio native moved to Las Vegas when she was 23, making the trip with seven of her college girlfriends. “I used to say I’d stay in Vegas five years max. It’s going on six, so now I say 10 years. I figure if I’m here after 10, then I’ll be here forever,” she said. “I’ve met a lot of people and know a lot of people who work everywhere. Anytime anyone comes into town, they know to call me because I can definitely show them a good time.”
With a bartending background, Settlemire started out as a Rhumbar bartender three years ago and for the past year has been a cocktail waitress. “I have more fun with the cocktailing. I enjoy talking to people more and running around. I like to be active; I’m hyper.” On a busy day she’s taking care of 16-20 tables at the same time. “It gets crazy but I love it.”
Mango Madness
The Mango Madness is one frozen blended drink that is seriously mad delicious—having one just won’t do it. The specialty cocktail is blended with ice, 10 Cane rum, Coral Crush daiquiri mix, piña colada frozen daiquiri mix and topped off with coconut-flavored whipped cream. Besides the vast libation menu, check out Rhumbar’s hookah list, where flavors include fruit, candy, cocktails and even coffee.
