Vegas Uncork’d brings 50 world-class chefs to five Strip resorts
The mention of names like Joël Robuchon, Thomas Keller, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Daniel Boulud makes you think of the biggest culinary visionaries lining the Strip. While you can dine at their restaurants any time, you can meet these chefs in person during Las Vegas’ biggest food event, taking over the Strip, May 8-11.
Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit returns for an eighth go-around with Aria, Bellagio, Caesars Palace, MGM Grand and The Venetian bringing the firepower of their celebrity chef stables to a variety of food events (which often sell out early). For the best shot at seeing these luminaries in action, book a ticket for the Grand Tasting with its mind-boggling array of 50 chefs cooking up samples of their fare around the Garden of the Gods at Caesars Palace on Friday, May 9. This pinnacle event of Vegas Uncork’d brings in more than 100 wines and spirits as well as a chance to see top toques such as Michael Mina, Gordon Ramsay, Pierre Gagnaire and more in action.
Afterward, the party moves to the new Fizz Las Vegas, the champagne lounge decorated by creative director David Furnish and featuring artwork from Furnish and his soon-to-be husband Sir Elton John’s private collection. Bubbly, of course, is the center attraction.
Other events can put you up close and personal with these star-wattage chefs. The Venetian hosts The Night Market: East Meets West on Thursday, May 8, with Batali, Keller and Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro creating Asian-inspired dishes at Doge’s Palace with chefs from Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands. Afterward, head to Batali’s Burgers, Beers and Boozy Shakes after-party at B&B Burger & Beer.
Prefer something a bit more intimate? Gagnaire teams up with Shawn McClain of Sage for A Twist on Dinner that same night to create a French-inspired spread combining their talents at Gagnaire’s Mandarin Oriental restaurant.
Don the casual attire for Mina’s Poolside Pig Roast and Beer Garden on Friday, May 9, at MGM Grand’s pool. The chef roasts a whole pig to create barbecue dishes paired with beer. But perhaps something more decadent is in order. In a first for the culinary extravaganza, Keller serves a lunch of his Bouchon dishes also on Friday, or you can get to know Valastro a bit better when he reveals his baking tips while dishing up his Italian fare at his Buddy V’s Ristorante.
Maybe a pairing of fire and ice would whet your palate? Royden Ellamar of Bellagio’s Sensi uses fire, ash and smoke to cook while the property’s master mixologist Ricardo Murcia keeps his cool with cocktails on Saturday, May 10.
Since Vegas Uncork’d always takes place over Mother’s Day weekend, a brunch is in order. On Saturday, McClain, Masa Takayama, Julian Serrano and Jean-Philippe Maury put their own spin on brunch dishes paired with wines at Sage.
The weekend wraps up Sunday, May 11, with an Uncork’d tradition—brunch with the Pellegrino family at Rao’s. The Italian family pulls out all the stops for a San Gennaro-like feast.
