Ask any fashion maven and they’ll tell you style is all about the accessories; the right handbag or earrings can make or break an outfit. In a similar manner, Strip resorts are also about their accessories. But instead of being fashion-oriented, these properties are all about their dining venues. Consider the Vegas steakhouse the little black dress of the Strip dining scene—everyone has one but they’re all just a bit different. Just consider Strip House at Planet Hollywood Resort.

Upon entering, Strip House transports you to an old-school burlesque lounge vibe, awash in reds with a smattering of black-and-white pinup photographs adorning the walls. And there’s no more fitting environs in which to partake of the myriad meats. Begin with a house-made Strip House-roasted bacon; accompanied by Russian dressing and baby arugula. And also made in-house, the house-cured beef jerky arrives alongside a shaved apple salad and pickled Napa kraut, which serve as foils to the concentrated flavor of the jerky. Not all offerings are red meat, of course. The jumbo lump crab cake is plump with lump buttery crab and finished with a spicy remoulade and haricots vert.

And in a hallmark of a well-rounded steakhouse, their Caesar salad tosses romaine lettuce in a creamy dressing with hints of anchovy, crispy paprika croutons and ample shaved Parmesan. The bibb lettuce salad is a riff on the wedge, with well-balanced Stilton vinaigrette accessorized with some house-smoked bacon lardons. And ’tis the season for bright tomatoes found in the red beefsteak tomato caprese.

While the Strip in Strip House might be misconstrued to represent the pinups, it’s in actuality the New York strip steak from which the restaurant takes its name. The NY Strip is a behemoth, so if you’re looking for a more modest cut, then the filet mignon is probably the way to go. You can order from a trio of house-made sauces—the rich Bordelaise, peppery au poivre and or creamy béarnaise—but the rustic cuts hardly need any outside adornment.

While steak may be the main event, Strip House’s exemplary side dishes distinguish it. The best fat just may be goose fat, and Strip House makes good use of the fowl with crisp goose fat potatoes. You’ll never look at twice-baked potatoes the same after ordering potatoes Romanoff, with plenty of shallots and a cheddar cheese crust. And black truffle creamed spinach is dense in earthiness with a buttery cream sauce.

For dessert, the baked Alaska is a guaranteed hit, but if chocolate's more your thing, the Strip House chocolate cake towers 24 layers over the table in a serving fit for a dozen. On the lighter side, the caramelized banana tart doesn’t loom large over your plate but will still satiate your sweet tooth. Any of the three will wonderfully round out your Strip House experience.
