For a few weeks in April, Las Vegas is inundated with spillover performances from the Coachella music festival in California, as artists that are booked for the massive event branch out into nearby cities for supplementary gigs.

Most of the Coachella acts that show up in Vegas are hot new indie rock/pop artists, building on the cachet of their festival booking. For those acts, Bryan Ferry might be something of a godfather; the longtime leader of Roxy Music and veteran solo artist has been making complex, critically acclaimed music for more than 40 years, and his influence can still be heard in the indie bands of 2014.

Ferry’s hits with Roxy Music include “More Than This,” “Love Is the Drug” and “Jealous Guy,” and his solo hits, beginning soon after Roxy Music’s debut include “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” and “Slave to Love.” Whether playing with a reconstituted Roxy Music (sometimes including original member Brian Eno) or as a solo artist, Ferry demonstrates that his position as an elder statesman of indie and alternative rock is anything but honorary.
