It used to be that the producers of electronic pop music were largely faceless—guys who worked diligently in the studio, then watched singers get all the attention and stardom.

These days, producers and DJs are some of the biggest superstars in pop music, and electronic duo Disclosure, featuring brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, are at the forefront. Disclosure songs feature vocals from a number of well-known pop singers, including Mary J. Blige, Sam Smith, Eliza Doolittle and Jessie Ware, but their presence is secondary to the work done by the Lawrence brothers.

For Smith and Sasha Keable, it was their appearances on Disclosure singles (“Latch” and “Voices,” respectively) that launched their careers. And while their songs and remixes may be popular in clubs, Disclosure is also critically acclaimed, scoring rave reviews for debut album Settle. Not bad for two guys who might have ended up as anonymous button-pushers a decade or two ago.
