Their bands may have never co-headlined a tour before, but Steve Miller and Journey’s Neal Schon first crossed paths in late-’60s San Francisco when The Steve Miller Band became one of album-oriented rock’s first successes and Schon was a 15-year-old guitarist about to make his mark with Santana. Miller would go on to have a string of hits in the ’70s as Schon and his bandmates in Journey (pictured) evolved from an FM radio staple into an arena-rock locomotive.

Miller is celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Joker, the career-changing album that turned him into a top 10 hit-maker in the mid-’70s, while Journey continues to fly high after acquiring lead singer Filipino lead singer Arnel Pineda in 2007—right after the Sopranos series finale featured “Don’t Stop Believin’” and thrust Journey’s music back into the spotlight. The joint summer tour the two acts are on also features Tower of Power opening the shows with its mighty horn section.
