At Caesars Palace, Cleo is getting all gussied up in preparation for her big date. She’s softly draped, the lights are low and the anticipation is high. What’s all this for? Why it’s for Matt Goss, of the former boy band Bros. Goss has certainly grown up since his time in the group, releasing five solo albums and starring in his own show here in Las Vegas.

Cleopatra’s Barge gets a mini makeover each Friday and Saturday night, transforming into The Gossy Room. The small venue works exquisitely well for Goss, allowing him to act the consummate showman and connect with his audience, like one of inspirations, Frank Sinatra, did in his famous Vegas days. Goss works the room, commenting on the attributes of the ladies about and pointing out the talents of his backing dancers, the Dirty Virgins.

The show pulls in a good variety of songs, including those made famous by the illustrious Mr. Sinatra (“Fly Me to the Moon,” “Luck Be a Lady”). You may hear selections from The Eagles (“Hotel California”), Nina Simone (“Feeling Good”) and even Stevie Wonder (“Superstition”). Goss kicks in some reggae and busts out some dancehall moves. But he brings out his own songs as well, including “When Will I Be Famous” and “Lovely Las Vegas,” from his newest album. The band, nearly as hot as Goss is, handles anything he throws at them, from jazz to rock and pop, and keeps it going full force.
