You want to talk about a musical legacy? The Temptations are closing in on 60 years of existence, longer than almost any other musical act, and they’ve managed to span generations in their membership and their musical reach. Original member Otis Williams, at 73, is still performing with the group, alongside members who’ve been part of The Temptations for anywhere from seven to 30 years. That gives the R&B group a connection to its heritage as one of the most successful acts of the Motown boom of the 1960s, as well as a fresher sound that the group continues to explore on new recordings (the most recent of which is 2010’s aptly titled Still Here).

Williams has been around for all of it, from classic hits like “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” to the group’s later flirtations with disco and rock to career-spanning honors including inductions into the Rock and Roll, Vocal Group and R&B Music Halls of Fame.
