Generally, pop music favors the young. Singers and performers who are still in their teens are often the ones who top the charts, and by the time they hit their late 20s, they’re ready for the nostalgia circuit. So maintaining a successful pop career for nearly 30 years is nothing short of amazing, but that’s just what English duo Erasure has done, from their first chart-topping hit “Sometimes” in 1986 through their 2014 album The Violet Flame, which became the group’s highest-charting album in a decade.

Members Vince Clarke and Andy Bell have achieved that sustained success thanks to impeccable songwriting and production skills, Bell’s distinctive voice and a strong live presence. Before teaming up with Bell, Clarke was a member of two of the most influential synth-pop acts of the ’80s, Depeche Mode and Yaz, and he really blossomed as a songwriter and musician after forming Erasure. The duo’s hits include “A Little Respect,” “Blue Savannah” and “Ship of Fools.” The band’s current tour features a low-key stage setup to showcase new mixes of both past hits and newer material, and after 30 years of hits, there’s plenty to cover.
