Strictly speaking, you might call Rusted Root a one-hit wonder: The band’s 1995 single “Send Me on My Way” is its only release to make the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, but it’s more than just a song that was popular at one time and is now a staple of the band’s live show. People who heard the song when it was first released may remember the breezy world-music sounds and the video from MTV.

But the song has had a steady presence in movies and TV shows since its release, from being featured on Party of Five in 1996 all the way up to appearing on New Girl in 2012. Even if the name Rusted Root doesn’t mean anything to you, you’re likely to recognize their biggest hit.

And then you can check out everything else the band has to offer, because it’s not like they’ve just been sitting around since 1995. That infectious mix of folk, rock and world music continued to infuse Rusted Root’s music on subsequent albums, and positivity and inclusiveness have remained the band’s core values. The wonders of that one hit have never ceased.
