Maynard James Keenan is a busy guy. Although he’s still known mainly as the singer for influential alt-metal band Tool, he spends most of his time these days on other projects. He started his own vineyard in his adopted home state of Arizona, and he has a memoir set for release next year. He’s also released three albums with rock band A Perfect Circle, but his main musical focus these days is Puscifer, an experimental collective that is as much about performance art as it is about music.

Keenan debuted Puscifer in 2007, and has since released three Puscifer albums with a variety of collaborators, including Primus’ Tim Alexander and Nine Inch Nails’ Danny Lohner. The band’s music is more experimental and electronic than Keenan’s work with Tool and A Perfect Circle. Third album Money Shot, released in October, moves the band away from some of its early jokiness, although it retains Keenan’s offbeat sense of humor. Puscifer’s show is also known for being weird and goofy, incorporating sketches and set pieces, and even if the newer songs are more serious, Keenan is likely to remain his eccentric, off-kilter self onstage.
