The definition of “alternative music” has become so broad that local alternative radio station X-107.5 can bring in quite an eclectic lineup for its annual Holiday Havoc concert. This year’s holiday gift to X-107.5 listeners features British indie-pop quartet Bastille, throwback grunge rockers Silversun Pickups, California punk band Fidlar and Utah alt-rock band The Moth & the Flame.

Bastille’s 2013 debut album Bad Blood spawned multiple hit singles, including “Pompeii,” “Flaws” and “Of the Night,” and the band has been hard at work on a follow-up, which means that new songs have been creeping into their set lists. Silversun Pickups released their fourth album, Better Nature, in September, continuing their grunge-revival sound, full of fuzzed-out guitars and anthemic riffs. Fidlar are second-generation punk stars led by Elvis and Max Kuehn, sons of Greg Kuehn of legendary punk band T.S.O.L. And The Moth & the Flame fit well with drummer Andrew Tolman’s former band, Vegas stars Imagine Dragons, employing the same kind of big hooks and pop sensibilities. Together the four bands represent the range of current alternative music, and their performances should be a holiday treat for a variety of music fans.
