These days, music in Las Vegas is dominated by DJs spinning electronic dance music in nightclubs, but there’s still a dedicated (if smaller) contingent of fans who value the old-school Vegas style of sophisticated crooning, singing classic standards in a retro setting. Although he’s not a Vegas resident, singer Michael Bublé is probably the most famous modern proponent of this vintage approach, and whenever he makes one of his occasional visits to Vegas, it feels like a natural fit.

Bublé got his start on Canadian TV before meeting producer David Foster, who produced Bublé’s self-titled 2003 debut album. Bublé’s throwback material has never been in line with contemporary trends, but he’s a consistent Billboard chart-topper, and he’s collaborated with artists ranging from Barry Gibb and Boyz II Men to Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Although he still focuses on interpretations of classic songs, Bublé also records original songs that evoke the same style, and his most recent album, 2013’s To Be Loved, features four original tunes. He’ll bring both those original compositions and a strong lineup of classics to his live show in Vegas on Jan. 1.
