The Marley family is one of the most musically accomplished families of all time. The children of reggae legend Bob Marley have been carrying on their father’s legacy since his death in 1981, and many have gone on to substantial careers of their own. Ziggy Marley, Bob’s oldest son, is probably the most successful, and he’s also the one who most closely follows his father’s musical style. Marley debuted onstage with his father at just 10 years old, and a year later he formed the band the Melody Makers with his brother Stephen and his sisters Sharon and Cedella.

More recently, Marley has been performing as a solo artist, although he still performs and records with his siblings, and he still honors his father’s music in concert. Marley’s last two albums, 2014’s Fly Rasta and 2013’s Ziggy Marley in Concert, each won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album. All Music called Fly Rasta “a welcome combination of comfortable and vital,” emphasizing Marley’s ability to meld traditional reggae with the more dance-club-oriented styles of his brothers Damian and Ky-Mani. Marley has become the unofficial patriarch of his far-reaching clan, with his decades-spanning career setting the example for his younger siblings.

With the beach-friendly vibe of Marley’s reggae music, Mandalay Bay Beach is the perfect environment to enjoy his sounds and laid-back jams with his band of accomplished musicians on July 31. Even in a family that’s bursting with talent, Ziggy Marley’s remarkable abilities manage to stand out.
