At first glance, pop rockers Fall Out Boy and rapper Wiz Khalifa might seem like an odd fit for a co-headlining bill on the Boys of Zummer tour. But both acts specialize in catchy songs that reach wide audiences. For audiences whose tastes increasingly span genres, a bill like this, united not by musical genre but by style, makes a lot of sense.

Although Fall Out Boy might have been labeled “emo” when they debuted, they’ve always been focused on pop melodies, and their sound has expanded since their early days. The band’s most recent album, January’s American Beauty/American Psycho, features samples ranging from Suzanne Vega to Mötley Crüe.

Wiz Khalifa is best known for his hit “Black and Yellow,” which has been adopted as an anthem for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He recently hit the top of the Billboard singles charts with “See You Again” from the Furious 7 soundtrack. Look for him to pop up during Fall Out Boy’s set to rap a verse during “Uma Thurman,” returning the favor Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz making a guest appearance during his set. Both musicians are focused on having fun and taking the audience along for the ride.
