If you follow comedian Bill Burr on Twitter, these are the kind of observations you can expect: “Fruit plate and a Budweiser. Little push-pull on the gut there.” “Went to put my jeans on too quickly and took a light tap to the nuts from my belt buckle.” Quips like that are what have endeared Burr to his audience as an everyday guy, someone to sit down and have a beer with.

The Boston native has been a working comedian for more than two decades, and he’s achieved all of his success by doing just that: working. He tours consistently; building his fan base until now he’s at the point where he can play 19 straight shows in his hometown, as he did last month. He puts out new specials every year or two, and he records his podcast, The Monday Morning Podcast, every week.

“The great thing about art is it’s endless,” Burr recently told the Boston Globe. “There’s always something you could be working on to get better, to hone more.” To that end, he’s gathering material for a new stand-up special, and he has an animated series, F Is for Family, that he co-created and stars in, set to premiere on Netflix later this year. For an everyday guy, it’s all just another day at the office.
