Touring partners Mary Lambert and The Script both started out by working on music for other people. Lambert’s big break came when she sang the hook on the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hit “Same Love,” which ended up becoming a gay-rights anthem of sorts. The Script founding members Danny O’Donoghue and Mark Sheehan spent several years working as writers and producers for big-name pop acts, with credits on songs by Britney Spears, Boyz II Men and others. Both used those experiences to launch successful careers, and they’ve both become pop stars in their own right.

For Lambert, the success of “Same Love” was followed by her own solo hits “She Keeps Me Warm” and “Secrets,” and she released her debut solo album Heart on My Sleeve last year. The Script has released four albums, including last year’s No Sound Without Silence, and racked up a number of hit singles, from “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” off their 2008 self-titled debut, to “Superheroes,” off No Sound Without Silence. Having stepped out of the shadows, both artists have long careers in the pop spotlight ahead of them.
