Mannheim Steamroller brings its signature sound to Las Vegas as part of its special holiday show, a time-tested combination of state-of-the-art multimedia effects and the group’s take on classic Christmas hits. Since the release of the group’s first Christmas album in 1984, founder Chip Davis has continued to combine the group’s signature mix of Renaissance instruments with rock beats. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the group’s Christmas tour, one of the longest running in the music industry.

When Davis took the music of Mannheim Steamroller to industry executives in 1974, they declined, telling him that his innovative 18th century instrumental rock sound would never sell. Undaunted, Davis founded American Gramaphone, one of the industry’s largest independent recording labels.

Davis says the band’s name derives from Mannheim, Germany, where Mozart once lived, and that “Steamroller” is the term for an 18th century technique known as the crescendo.
