The Pearl might be the most high-profile venue Bill Maher’s had in town, a reflection of his ever-growing popularity and influence. “I don’t think you’re anybody in show business unless you have a presence in Las Vegas,” he told Las Vegas Weekly back in 2013, before the first dates of his new residency at The Pearl at Palms.

On Real Time , Maher isn’t afraid to criticize politicians and policies from both sides of the political spectrum, and he’s a fiercely independent voice. Through his segments on Real Time, his appearances elsewhere on TV, his stand-up and his 2008 documentary Religulous, Maher has also avoided the tendency of some comedians to lose sight of humor as they advocate for issues.

Maher has strong political opinions, but he’s also consistently funny. And that’s why he’s in Las Vegas: Because he makes people laugh, and making them think is just an added bonus.
