It’s been more than 40 years now since drummer Roger Earl joined some of his former Savoy Brown band mates to form Foghat, and he’s still going strong as the band’s foundation. These days, Earl performs alongside longtime bassist Craig MacGregor, who joined the band in 1976, plus guitarist Bryan Bassett and singer-guitarist Charlie Huhn, who are both more recent additions. Of course, in a band with this long a history, “recent” means more than 15 years (Bassett joined the band in 1999).

Together, the four members carry on the legacy that began with Foghat’s 1972 self-titled debut album. Although that album featured some popular songs (“I Just Want to Make Love to You,” “Sarah Lee”), it was Foghat’s 1977 Foghat Live album that really put the band on the map, and it remains their best-selling.

Foghat staples “Fool for the City,” “I Just Want to Make Love to You” and “Slow Ride” have appeared on that live recording, helping them to become hit singles that remain in heavy rotation on classic-rock radio to this day. Even as the band has gone through various lineup changes and stylistic approaches, Roger Earl has remained behind the drum kit, keeping alive the music he’s been playing for most of his life.
