For a little over a year now, the Lipshtick series at The Venetian has been bringing in the best female comedians, from veterans like Roseanne Barr, Rita Rudner and Caroline Rhea to up-and-comers like Fortune Feimster, Sarah Colonna and Jen Kirkman, to perform in Las Vegas, providing a much-needed showcase for voices that sometimes don’t get the attention they deserve. Comedian Whitney Cummings helped launch the series by introducing the initial lineup and was one of the series’ first performers. Since then, she’s been back a number of times (including this week on Sept. 19), playing to fans who don’t need a label to know that she’s funny. “Women are half of the population and we’re not really servicing that demographic,” Cummings told reporters when first announcing the series. Cummings herself has been on the rise since she began performing stand-up in 2004. She spent time as a panelist on Chelsea Lately and starred in her own sitcom, Whitney, for two seasons on NBC. She’s also the co-creator of the wildly popular CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, which has a raunchy, unfiltered sense of humor that matches Cummings’ own. Whatever other people may label her, Cummings is her own unique presence, a powerful comedic voice that keeps growing stronger.
