If there is a nexus of the current jam-band scene, it’s possible that Lettuce is at the heart of it. The seven-piece (with frequent guests), funk-oriented band started in Boston in the early ’90s, when the members were students at the renowned Berklee College of Music, and since then they’ve steadily performed live and released albums. But the band members have also gone on to join some of the most renowned and influential bands in the jam world.

Lettuce members Eric Krasno and Neal Evans form the core of funk-jazz group Soulive, and other band members have joined up with Rustic Overtones (saxophonist Ryan Zoidis), Robert Randolph and the Family Band (guitarist Adam Smirnoff) and the Dave Matthews Band (trumpeter Rashawn Ross).

But they still make time to tour and record together. After celebrating their 20th anniversary last year, they’re working on a new full-length album and touring the country with a rotating lineup of funk and jam-band openers.
