It’s really a tale of empowerment, isn’t it? A young woman on a journey of self-exploration, ready to set the world afire, or at least learn how to look hot in a dog collar. In 50 Shades The Parody, three book club members take on a popular racy novel, and along the way discard the bonds they’ve been experiencing in their own mundane lives.

Join the ladies as they find Anastasia on her college graduation day, lamenting a lack in her life that leaves her soooooo unfulfilled. It’s not long after meeting that she and her huge crush, Christian, sing and dance and discard their pants. Thank goodness Christian has his workout gear on, avoiding total nudity and showing off his extremely, extremely (extremely) well-toned stomach muscles to an awestruck Ana, and explaining through song his physical interests (rhymes with duck).

Christian has a few kinks in the bedroom, and he works them out in his Red Room of Pain, with feather dusters, dog collars, whips and chains. He’d really like a friend to join him, a friend who’ll sign a massive contract detailing what can and cannot be done in the hallowed hall. More musical numbers follow, with support from the leather strap-clad cast, and the book club gals, who take Anastasia and Christian’s lessons to heart.

Will Christian help Ana fill the huge hole inside her? Of course he will! No sad endings here, just a sweet story of a boy, a girl and their sado/masochistic tendencies. That’s something we can all get behind. –Nina King
