Go on—shed a few decades.

You know your kids have the right idea—namely, being kids. Within the walls of Adventuredome—the super-charged playground at Circus Circus—grown-ups can (and should) be kids, too. Housed indoors beneath a large glass dome and loaded with 27 rides and attractions, the 5-acre Adventuredome has been a signature element of Las Vegas since it opened as Grand Slam Canyon in August 1993, and was renamed in 1998. (Every October since 2003, the amusement complex has transformed into Fright Dome as a Halloween theme park.)

Still a prime locale for a high-energy good time, Adventuredome is home to noted El Loco roller coaster, which tops its lineup of gravity-challenging rides, plus a rock-climbing wall, clown shows, miniature golf, mini-bowling, interactive theater shows and carnival/arcade games.

Where to begin? Families can conveniently start with the family rides. Try the B.C. Bus, an up-down-and-around ride, or go for the Circus Carousel, an old-fashioned, revolving trip atop your favorite carved animal. Another classic experience—taking a spin on a Ferris wheel—is available on one called Drifters. Or climb on the Road Runner, a jaunt around the mini-slopes of the Himalayas. And for the smaller members of your contingent, there’s the junior rides. Plop ’em on the Frog Hopper for some bouncy fun, put them onboard Miner Mike, a “runaway” coal train, or let them take flight on Thunderbirds to play pilot on a 1920s-style plane.

Bigger daredevils will be drawn to such attractions as Sand Pirates, where you can indulge your swashbuckling side and hang on tight for a wild pirate ship ride. Or slide in behind the wheel of the Canyon Cars, a bumper-car crash course.

Coaster aficionados can’t pass up the marquee attractions. Get your adrenaline jacked up on the famous/infamous Canyon Blaster—advertised as “the world’s only indoor, double-loop, double-corkscrew roller coaster” that barrels through the Adventuredome at a speedy 55 mph. After catching your breath, give your heart another jump-start on El Loco, a twisty nerve-rattler that shoots 90 feet up, then plummets for a 1.5-vertical-G drop.

Once your feet are back on the ground—get ’em off again. Take a whirl on Disk’O, a rocking/spinning thingamabob; soar on the Sling Shot that rockets you up to its tower with 4 G’s worth of acceleration; experience some Chaos, a ride that spins you in three ranges of rapid motion; and hop aboard the Inverter, a flip-crazed concoction that whips you around a full 360 degrees with G-force intensity.

Also among the abundant amusements: take in the 4-D Special FX Theatre, with its bubbles, scents, air bursts, water squirts and vibrating seats that help give dimension and bring to life adventure cartoons including Ice Age, Pacific Rim, SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer; zap your friendly foes with laser fire at the Lazer Blast arena—then put a Gotham City spin on the fun with Batman-themed laser battles, including protecting citizens from the dastardly Joker.

Up for a physical challenge? Head to the Xtreme Zone to test your rock-climbing and bungee-jumping abilities. Those who love the links with a fun flourish can stop by the Pirates Bounty, an 18-hole miniature golf feature, and those who want to square off against the pins can visit the mini-bowling of Highway 66. At the Midway Games, prizes await, while video game lovers can flock to the arcade. And adding to the merry vibe, clown shows take place on the main stage throughout the afternoon, with evening performances added on Fridays and Saturdays.

So go on—shed those decades. In here, even grown-ups give in to childlike abandon.
