One wonders if a hip-hop group with the individual monikers Butterfly, Ladybug Mecca, and Doodlebug came out today, if they would even have a chance. But that collective unit, better known as Digable Planets—whose original run lasted for around four years in the mid 1990s—still has such a ravenous following that they can sell out venues across the country on this, yet another reunion tour.

The socially conscious trio who epitomize an era of intelligent East Coast hip-hop both lyrically and musically, bring something to the table that is sometimes missing in today’s rap game. Their jazz influences and alternative sounding grooves sound as fresh today as they did in ’93.

Look no further than their most famous cut “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat),” whose dense lyrical landscape features standout verses from all three members, a standup bass line that is one of hip-hop’s most memorable, and those smooth horns.

This is a club act that promises to prove why they are “cool like dat / chill like dat / peace like dat / zoom like dat” among others before they finally exclaim, “We out!”
