Is there a better band with a better summer name than Beach House? Like the season itself, their music often feels like a light breeze, easy to walk in the sand to and unwind after a long day. Or, if you have just gone through a summer breakup with your partner, well, they’ve got that whole melancholy thing covered, too.

For over a decade, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally have been a dominant force on the dream pop landscape. Her voice, so interesting, so pretty, so ethereal, plays against his fuzzy and sometimes scorching guitar riffs to create something unique in the pop world.

Look no further than “Myth” off of Bloom (2012). From the opening notes, you are immediately transported somewhere, but you are not sure where. There is an otherworldly quality to what the duo is able to accomplish. Then there’s “Norway” off of Teen Dream (2010). Perhaps this is the best example of just how shoegazey Beach House can get. It’s also prime material for the noted comparison of Legrand to mysterious alt icon Nico. Perhaps if Legrand had been born some decades earlier, she too, would have sung with The Velvet Underground.

Although it’s a tad too late for that, the time is ripe to experience what she and Scally are doing now. And end up in another world.
