Somehow Jim James has managed to be both prolific and fly under the radar as an artist. He is best known for creating crunchy rock sounds with My Morning Jacket, the alt-psych rockers from Louisville, Ky., who are renowned for their live jam sessions.

As a solo artist, sometimes known as Jim James and sometimes as Yim Yames, he has worked with T Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello and The Decemberists. He even acted in the avant garde Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There directed by Todd Haynes. And if that’s not enough, he and his bandmates also appeared in an episode of American Dad, playing spoof versions of themselves as My Morning Straightjacket.

He’s currently on tour in support of his second solo album, Eternally Even. Lead single “Same Old Lie” starts off in the world of standard rock and moves into an exciting instrumental crescendo with some steps into the land of the psychedelic. It is a good example of what one can expect during a James’ show as he will no doubt ratchet up the genre mashups and take the crowd on a journey throughout all the universes he visits musically.
