Fish Leong is back. Fans of Mandarin pop music have been missing one of their top superstars for several years, as Leong took time off to spend with her husband and son, but the Malaysian-born “Mandopop” singer spent the second half of this year on a comeback tour that took her to Singapore, Australia and England. Her Las Vegas appearance is one of two dates scheduled in the U.S., making it possible for legions of Leong-covering karaoke singers to catch their idol live for the first time.

Leong started her own career covering other people’s songs and was discovered by Taiwanese label Rock Records, which released her debut album Yi Ye Zhang Da (Grown Up Overnight) in 1999. The charismatic singer quickly followed up with hit album after hit album of love balladry delivered in her delicate vocal style. Songs of forbidden romance such as “Happy Break-up” and “Courage” captured the imaginations of Leong’s devotees, who have been treated to visual extravaganzas at Leong’s live shows in the past.

The U.S. dates of her fourth and current tour, Tu t’appelles l’amour (Love Is Your Name) should prove no different, as Leong reportedly rode above the crowds in a chandelier in Singapore.
