Last year, 35 years after Iron Maiden released its debut, the British heavy metal band’s 15th album, The Book of Souls, became its highest-charting album in the U.S., its fifth No. 1 album in the U.K. and a chart-topper in 24 countries total. The Book of Souls also made end-of-year best-of lists from mainstream publications like The Guardian and Vice, in addition to heavy metal and classic rock outlets like Kerrang! and Revolver. That’s a pretty impressive feat for any band, let alone one that’s been around for nearly four decades and released its biggest hit singles in the 1980s.

Those hits include “Run to the Hills,” “The Number of the Beast,” “2 Minutes to Midnight” and “Bring Your Daughter … to the Slaughter,” among others, which have since become heavy metal classics. Iron Maiden is one of the most influential bands in heavy metal history, and singer Bruce Dickinson has one of the most distinctive voices in metal. Thankfully, that voice is in great shape following his recent cancer treatment, and Dickinson has a clean bill of health for the band’s latest tour. Both Iron Maiden and its singer are still going stronger than ever.
