Trace Adkins has done some living in the two decades since the release of his first album Dreamin’ Out Loud. In the past few years, he’s experienced divorce and problems with alcohol before receiving treatment. He hasn’t really mellowed out, though—his new single, “Lit,” released July 1, was deemed a return to “rowdy” for the 6-foot-6 baritone, as famous for his efforts on behalf of U.S. servicemen as he is for songs such as “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.”

Adkins who debuted “Lit” live on Fox and Friends, was given the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award in May by the National Defense Industrial Organization “for his long-standing and extraordinary support and advocacy for America’s servicemen and women.” His USO shows will have to take a backseat to his summer tour for now, as the singer of hits like “You’re Gonna Miss This,” “Ladies Love Country Boys” and his January release, “Jesus and Jones,” has a fan base prepared for Adkins to make it rowdy live and in person.
