Over the years, industrial-rock band Filter and frontman Richard Patrick have been one and the same, with Patrick the only constant member since the band’s founding in 1993. With original collaborator Brian Liesegang, Patrick recorded Filter’s debut album, including hit single “Hey Man Nice Shot,” which became one of the seminal songs of ’90s alt-rock. After parting ways with Liesegang, Patrick kept Filter going with further hits like “(Can’t You) Trip Like I Do” and massively popular ballad “Take a Picture.”

The most recent Filter album is Crazy Eyes, featuring Patrick along with an entirely new lineup of the band, plus contributions from past Filter collaborators Ben Grosse, Jonathan Radtke and Danny Lohner, with whom Patrick played in Nine Inch Nails. All Music said the album “manages to tread new ground for Filter while respectfully acknowledging the sound that propelled the band in the first place.” Patrick’s collaborators may come and go, but he keeps Filter focused on heavy rock with an electronic edge and a lyrical conscience.
