Jimmy Buffett named his current tour after his contribution to the Fast Times at Ridgemont High soundtrack, “I Don’t Know.” While the song was written as the theme for the 1981 comedy film’s stoner-surfer central character Spicoli, and Buffett himself built a career on depicting laid-back beach life, the singer-songwriter has been decisively industrious: touring endlessly, authoring books and establishing hospitality and lifestyle empire Margaritaville. With $1.5 billion in sales of everything from resort rooms to LandShark Lager in 2015, Buffett’s branding endeavors earn more money than his tours.

Buffet, 69, creates the “Margaritaville” state of mind for legions of Parrotheads from Paris to Las Vegas through performing. He switches up his sets frequently for faithful tour followers, and, through his website, polls fans for back catalog song requests. Of course, he can’t get away without performing classics such as “Come Monday,” “Volcano” and his signature song named for that frozen concoction that helps him hang on.
