Among the other historic achievements of OutKast’s classic hip-hop album ATLiens, it can be thanked for inspiring Isaiah Rashad to pursue a career in rap. Rashad, 25, is a refreshingly independent voice in hip-hop with a DIY style.

Rashad, a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., has a familiar yet distinct style to his presentation. The instrumentals backing his verses borrow from jazz, funk and an overall laid-back feel that matches his Southern drawl.

Listen to breakout digital download Cilvia Demo from 2014 to get a deeper understanding of the young rapper. Of the online collection, MTV’s Rob Markman said, “By the time the 14-track project winds down, Rashad slowly doles out his own coming-of-age story using introspective raps, melodies and, at times, good old Southern bounce.”

Rashad’s first full studio album, The Sun’s Tirade from 2016, features put-it-on-repeat single “Free Lunch” and took the artist to such heights that he extended his current tour from 22 to 46 cities.

Besides OutKast, Rashad lists among his influences Erykah Badu, The Fugees, KRS-One, Three 6 Mafia, The Temptations, Jay Z, Smokey Robinson, T.I. and Lil Wayne. Somehow, all of that shines through in his unique music.
