Like many frontmen who came before (and after) him, Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas has enjoyed great success outside the confines of the band that made him famous. He co-wrote and sang on Santana’s award-winning smash hit “Smooth” in 1999; he’s penned songs for such acclaimed artists as Mick Jagger, Marc Anthony and Willie Nelson; and he’s an accomplished solo artist with three albums and multiple tours to his credit.

However, unlike frontmen who flee for solo pastures and never look back, Thomas has never strayed far from Matchbox Twenty. In fact, when the band announced a summer tour with fellow 1990s hitmakers Counting Crows, Thomas made clear his devotion to Matchbox Twenty (pictured). “No matter what I will ever do,” Thomas said when they announced this tour, “nothing feels like home as much as playing these songs with these guys, and it never will.”

A year ago, Thomas joined forces with Counting Crows for a blockbuster tour. This time, he’s bringing along his Matchbox Twenty bandmates for A Brief History of Everything Tour. Expect more joint history from these bands in years to come. “We took a vote after last year and decided to spend every summer with Rob from now on,” said Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz in the tour announcement. “Can. Not. Wait.”
