The Black Crowes featured an ever-changing lineup over its more than 25-year existence, but the core members were always brothers Chris Robinson on vocals and Rich Robinson on guitar. Since the Crowes broke up in 2015, the brothers have embarked on individual projects, but Rich Robinson is reconstructing a bit of the Crowes’ legacy with his new band, the Magpie Salute. In addition to Robinson, Magpie features former Crowes bassist Sven Pipien and former Crowes guitarist Marc Ford.

The band’s show mixes Crowes favorites with songs from solo albums by Robinson and Ford, along with covers by artists like Eric Clapton and Free. Like the Crowes, Magpie indulges in free-form jams that give the band’s concerts unpredictability. The Robinson brothers may or may not bring back the Crowes, but until then, Rich Robinson is keeping its improvisational spirit alive.
