The longevity of some classic rock bands is so substantial that members who’ve been around for decades can still be regarded as new faces. That’s just the case for Molly Hatchet guitarist Bobby Ingram, who joined the band in 1987 and has been the primary force behind its continued existence since the mid-1990s.

But Molly Hatchet was around for more than 15 years before Ingram joined, releasing classic Southern rock anthems including “Flirtin’ With Disaster,” “Bounty Hunter” and “Beatin’ the Odds.” Along with acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker Band and .38 Special, Molly Hatchet was part of the Southern rock boom of the 1970s, with a sound that is back in style again today, thanks to modern country acts. Guitarist Dave Hlubek was the longest-serving original Molly Hatchet member before his death in 2017, and Ingram and the rest of the lineup are carrying on the legacy of Hlubek, late lead singer Danny Joe Brown and the other original members as they tour around the country, bringing Molly Hatchet’s music to longtime fans and new listeners. For Ingram and keyboardist John Galvin (who’s been an off-and-on member since 1984), being the new guys has turned into an entire career.
