It’s been a momentous 12 months for Of Mice & Men, the nu metal outfit which formed in Costa Mesa, Calif. At the inaugural Las Rageous Festival in Las Vegas in 2017, the band performed without founding member and vocalist Austin Carlile. Bassist Aaron Pauley took over lead vocals and the band hasn’t looked back since. The first single with Pauley as lead, “Unbreakable,” was released shortly thereafter and has since garnered almost 4 million YouTube views. The song features Pauley showcasing both pop metal-style vocals and metalcore-style screaming. The chorus seems to speak to the band and that no matter how many lineup changes, they are here to stay. “Back to Me” was released at the same time as “Unbreakable” and features a pulsing rhythm courtesy of original band members David Valentino Arteaga and Phil Manansala, on drums and guitar respectively. Their counterparts in the book they took their band name from should have been so lucky.
