The stereotype of the Vegas lounge act is an enduring one, but old-school lounge acts are a relative rarity in Vegas these days. That’s why Richard Cheese is such a perfect fit for the current Vegas: He and his band Lounge Against the Machine uphold the style of the vintage lounge bands while poking fun at the old-fashioned conventions and cheekily taking on modern pop and rock hits. Cheese the character may be based on a joke, but his band and his music are seriously entertaining, a parody and a tribute act all in one. What started out as a goofy character on LA radio station KROQ in the ’90s has developed into a full-fledged phenomenon, with more than a dozen albums, plus TV appearances and tours and a current regular gig at Red Rock Resort in Vegas.
