Remember the scene in Mary Poppins where Mary’s Uncle Albert can’t stop laughing? And it’s so infectious that up goes the whole group? It’s a little like that when you hit up The Spare Room at the Downtown Grand.

Whether it’s Don Barnhart’s Hypnomania or a Delirious Stand-Up Comedy show, you’ll start with a giggle and end with belly laughs. Barnhart (pictured) pulls volunteers onstage each night, and puts them through their paces, eliciting the most unusual responses (hey, keep that shirt on!) to relatively innocuous commands.

At the stand-up show, two comics and the host each take a turn onstage, with the laughs growing greater as each one appears. The roster changes each week—catch Derek Richards, who ruminates on everything from divorce to his childhood, and East Coast comic Stacy Kendro from Aug. 7-11. The intimate size of the venue means you have a good chance of being a little part of the show, too!
