The D rises 34 stories in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas, its north side open to Fremont Street Experience and its southwest corner sharing the intersection of Carson Avenue and 3rd Street with the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. Amid the bustle of downtown pedestrians and traffic, guests arrive by car via the 4th Street entrance, catch ride shares from the South side and access self-parking on the west side. There is an up escalator on the Fremont Street side, with no down escalator.
That's just one unconventional feature of an unconventional property. Owner-operators Derek and Greg Stevens had a vision for a hotel-casino with modern flair and respect for tradition when they renovated and rebranded Fitzgeralds Las Vegas, opening as The D in 2012. They found a way to do both by contrasting the contemporary design of the ground flood casino with a vintage Vegas feel on the second floor. It's that atmosphere that awaits at the top of the Fremont-side escalator, where entrance doors open to the cozy confines of Vue Bar.
Vue Bar's half-dozen tables and casual barstools make it a scene all its own where game scores can be caught up on and plans for the evening can be made. Single-person, sit-down craps and baccarat games are within sight of Vue Bar, and a Blarney Stone, alleged to come from Blarney Castle in Ireland, is mounted just outside the bar to the left.
Marriage Can Be Murder
To the right are mechanical horse-racing games. The Sigma Derby machine is a vintage machine lovingly maintained by the Stevens brothers, and there's rarely an empty seat when the tiny thoroughbreds go neck-and-neck around the miniature track. For the occasional times when the Sigma Derby is being serviced, the Konami Cup is a reboot of the classic Derby game, with horses that gallop as they race toward the finish line.
The Showroom at the D, featuring afternoon and late-night comedy in addition to resident shows Defending the Caveman, Friends! The Musical Parody and Marriage Can Be Murder, is also upstairs, as is the intimate Circa Sportsbook, which prides itself on providing the kind of personal service that made Downtown Las Vegas a preferred place for bettors. Andiamo Steakhouse, with its old-school feel and classic steak selections, shares that philosophy. The comfortable, quiet atmosphere enables full enjoyment of signature dishes such as calamari fritti, pan-roasted sea scallops and dry-aged tomahawk steaks. During National Finals Rodeo, Andiamo has a limited selection of 36-ounce Snake River Farms American wagyu steaks dry-aged for 100 days.
Longbar
An escalator leads to the first floor. Blink and you'll miss the camera lens that captures your image for the last screen on the ride down. Longbar is the dominant feature complementing the casino's table games, with 15 HD screens mounted on the walls behind the bottles and tuned to the most important matchups of the day. Always a social hub, the Longbar is a go-to place for Downtown Las Vegas in general, let alone The D.
