Not everyone adjusts to a city like Las Vegas, but for Jessica Carter it was no problem. Las Vegas must’ve taken a liking to her, too, seeing as she got her job at The Linq Hotel’s new center bar, 3535, the same day she interviewed.

After seeing how well her younger sister was doing working at Planet Hollywood Resort, Carter came to Vegas seeking work. The Detroit-area native has only lived and worked in town for three months, but luckily, she’s loving every moment of it.

“(Las Vegas) is a lot to take in. It’s very different from what I’m used to but everything is really exciting here. Everything is on a grander scale,” she says. “(3535) is very elaborate and there’s more care taken in every detail. And (there are) so many different people from different walks of life. You never know who you’re going to talk to or sit down next to.”

In her free time, Carter says she’s a big horror movie buff. One of her favorite moments was meeting Pinhead himself, Hellraiser star Doug Bradley, at a horror film convention, which she attends annually.

Trying some of 3535’s oddball infusions might indeed be scary for some guests, but Carter says one of her favorite parts is helping people get out of their comfort zone when it comes to drinks.

“Come take a challenge and try a sriracha tequila shot,” she says, laughing. “It’s a great way to start the morning!”

Wat-A-Pear

3535 has 35 different infused liquors on the menu, from an espresso-infused Maker’s Mark bourbon to a wasabi and ginger-infused Hendrick’s gin. The most popular cocktail on the menu right now is the Wat-A-Pear, which is made of watermelon and rosemary-infused Tito’s handmade vodka, St-Germain elderflower liqueur and fresh watermelon juice, with a rosemary garnish. It might look syrupy-sweet, but it’s not: The flavors come together to make it surprisingly refreshing and tasteful.
