It’s all Kathy Bates’ fault. It was her character in the thriller Misery that made being a superfan rather creepy. However, Karis Burns, who is certainly enamored with Britney Spears, couldn’t be further from that association. Burns is such a devotee that she’s even a sales associate for Britney: U Wanna Piece of Me?, a store inside Miracle Mile Shops that coincides with the pop star’s show at Planet Hollywood Resort.

Last year, Burns came to Las Vegas with the sole purpose of buying the “Work B**ch” hat that’s sold at the Britney store. “I ended up talking to a sales associate for 30 minutes about job opportunities,” she said. “I ended up moving out to Vegas, hoping for a job at the store. Ten days after I moved here, I got the job.”

Burns became a Spears fan when she saw her in concert in her home state of Texas. “My first Britney concert was in 1999 at Six Flags in Dallas,” she recalled. It was later in life that Burns found a deeper admiration. “I think about everything that she’s gone through and overcome,” she said. “It’s just powerful, and that makes me respect her even more as an artist.”

Now that Burns works in a store where every inch is covered in Britney, she feels even more immersed in her fandom. She even met Britney backstage after a show last May. “It left me speechless,” she said. “She’s so beautiful, so sweet. Seeing her show and working here, it’s amazing to see the impact Britney has on people’s lives, me included.”

It’s been on the shelves since opening, but this hat recently reached iconic status when Britney wore a bedazzled version of it in her show. “Everyone came in and wanted one after that; it sold out the very same night she wore it onstage,” said Burns. The hat, also available in an uncensored version, is one size fits all with an adjustable strap, and retails for $45. Other merchandise includes a slew of clothing—all featuring Britney’s face—bags, jackets, jewelry, accessories, DVDs and CDs.
