Jeff Foxworthy makes no qualms about being a redneck. The comedian has found multiple uses for duct tape. He’s knows he’s smarter than a fifth grader. When he’s not driving his tractor on his Georgia farm, he’s the host of The American Bible Challenge. Foxworthy plays Planet Hollywood Resort on Dec. 12-13 with Larry the Cable Guy, and ahead of his dates, he gave Las Vegas Magazine’s Susan Stapleton some new uses for duct tape and declares Las Vegas an honorary member of the Redneck Hall of Fame.

We have NASCAR. We fry Oreos and Twinkies. We have what seems like more country stars than Nashville. Is Las Vegas the new honorary South?

Definitely. You can have honorary Redneck Hall of Fame status. Which is kind of the fun thing about Vegas; you always know you’re going to have your audience there. Comedy works the same everywhere. I love playing Vegas ... during NFR time. Nothing says “Happy birthday, Jesus” like Granny smoking on a Rascal while she’s gambling.

You’ve performed in a huge number of different settings over the years. Now you’re coming to Planet Hollywood Resort and headlining with Larry the Cable Guy. How do you decide who goes first?

You know, the fun thing is there’s never been any ego involved. The first Blue Collar Comedy Tour, I always closed the show. But then Larry kind of blew up and by the third show, I said, “I’ll go in front of you.” We’ll probably flip a coin or we’ll come out individually and then come out together at the end. A few months ago we were at a big charity thing in Omaha, and so he said, “Come surprise everybody and you be the opening act.” Larry goes out onstage and says, “I talked this guy into opening for me. He’s kind of nervous and he’s been onstage a few times,” and then I walked out. At the end, I just want the two of us to take questions from the audience. We ended up doing it for almost half an hour. We may do some of that. It ended really funny.

It must be nice to be on the road with a friend like Larry.

We’ve known each other a long time. In this business it’s very rare to make stand-up comedy a career. So many people use it as a launching pad for TV or movies. There’s not many people who make it their life’s work. I’ve been doing this for 30 years and still love doing it. TV and the movies were the icing on the cake. I always said that about the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. So many times you’re on the road alone. To do that, that was like being onstage with our buddies.

What are some things that you have fixed with duct tape?

It may be a shorter list of things I have not fixed. Let me see. I’ve secured things in the back of my car with the trunk open so they don’t fall out. Furniture, dryers, a deer stand. I hemmed my pants with duct tape for an awards show. I cut my finger working on my farm and wrapped it in duct tape and continued to work.
