Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas are all grown up. Just a few years ago, they were stars on the Disney Channel, appearing on wholesome, kid-friendly programming and making wholesome, kid-friendly music. But as their tween fans have matured, Lovato and Jonas have matured with them, and while they haven’t disavowed their squeaky clean pasts, they’ve made clear efforts to forge new images as confident adult pop stars. Lovato got her start as the star of Disney Channel sitcom Sonny With a Chance, and Jonas was one-third of Disney-signed band the Jonas Brothers.

Lovato’s early pop hits include “Give Your Heart a Break” and “Skyscraper,” and the Jonas Brothers’ include “Burnin’ Up” and “Tonight.” Nick Jonas’ most recent album as a solo artist, Last Year Was Complicated, features a more sophisticated R&B-influenced sound, with more personal, revealing lyrics and guest spots from artists like Tove Lo and Ty Dolla $ign. Lovato’s 2015 album Confident is similarly revealing and sophisticated, although more geared toward dance-pop, with songs (including the hit title track) that address the singer’s personal struggles. After years of making similar career moves, Lovato and Jonas are the perfect tour mates, still taking cues from one another.
