When Gwen Stefani was known primarily as the lead singer of pop-rock band No Doubt, the first indication of the massive success she’d have on her own was the 2001 single “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” featuring Stefani singing alongside rapper Eve. As a member of No Doubt, Stefani was a major star of ’90s alt-rock, with hits like “Don’t Speak,” “Spiderwebs” and “Just a Girl.”

As No Doubt expanded its sound from ska-influenced rock to a more pop-oriented approach (on hits like “Hey Baby” and “Hella Good”), Stefani made her solo debut with 2004’s Love. Angel. Music. Baby, which launched iconic hit “Hollaback Girl,” and she followed it with 2006’s The Sweet Escape, cementing her pop-star status. After returning to No Doubt for a few years, Stefani has turned her focus back to her solo career, with March’s This Is What the Truth Feels Like.

Now that she’s a pop superstar, Stefani has brought back the collaborator who first put her on that path, with Eve as opening act and special guest (for “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” and Stefani’s “Rich Girl”) on her latest tour, in Vegas Aug. 19. As famous as she’s become, she hasn’t forgotten how it all began.
