The spirit of the Emerald Isle is strong at Nine Fine Irishmen. The two-level Irish pub brings a lively energy to New York-New York with a deep menu of traditional favorites.

The Alaskan cod of the fish and chips is covered in a light Smithwick’s batter that doesn’t overwhelm the tenderness of the meat—tasting even better slathered in lemon, malt vinegar and house-made tartar sauce. The shepherd’s pie is technically a cottage pie, since it’s prepared with ground beef and steak tips instead of lamb in a nod toward American preferences.

The Irish nachos are the most popular appetizer—house-fried potato chips (in place of tortilla chips) buried under tender, slow-cooked corned beef, chive aioli and a beer cheese blend with just enough pepper Jack for a subtle spicy touch. Warm up with seafood chowder that thrives with bites of salmon, cod, mussels and clams.

Deciding on dessert is nearly as hard as choosing between a pint of Guinness or a shot of Jameson (but maybe you should order both of those!). The bread pudding arrives in a large cup that’s flipped upside-down and drenched with caramel and whiskey cream. The Irish trifle is a modified tiramisu with ladyfingers soaked in Baileys instead of coffee liqueur and layered between Jameson mascarpone.

Expect the energy to increase at Nine Fine Irishmen for St. Patrick’s Day with live music, drink deals and a corned beef and cabbage special. The holiday coincides with the annual three-day Celtic Feis celebration with the pub serving a short-rib slider with a red onion marmalade and a corned beef slider with sauerkraut, cheese and Thousand Island.
