Golden Nugget is one of Las Vegas’ true gems. It’s off the beaten path of the Strip but no less impressive, nestled along the Fremont Street Experience corridor and offering great gaming, entertainment and, especially, dining options. Its restaurant offerings are all well worth your dining dollar, but the king of the hill here is also one of the best in town—Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse.

The Las Vegas outpost of this franchise—you’ll also find locations in Atlantic City, Houston and Lake Charles, La.—stays true to the qualities that have made it one of the most award-winning steakhouses in downtown Las Vegas: Stunning décor reflecting a magnificent restaurant experience, an attentive waitstaff and a killer menu.

In an elegant dining room like this, it would be almost criminal not to order a cocktail, and Vic & Anthony’s features some of your all-time favorites, including Manhattans, Sidecars and Old-Fashioneds, not to mention a few surprises like the Spiced Pear, so delicious with St. George spiced pear liqueur, fresh orange juice and Tintero moscato D’asti, and the Full Dose, which lives up to its name with Dewar’s Japanese Mizunara oak cask, Choya Yuzu liqueur, honey syrup, Domaine de Canton and ginger.

What’s a great steak experience without starting out with a salad? The options here are all strong, particularly the pear and Saga blue cheese salad, drizzled with creamy vinaigrette and accented by candied pecans and teardrop tomatoes; the steakhouse chopped salad, chock-full of cheese, salami, bacon and red onions; and the classic iceberg wedge, topped with Roquefort dressing and loaded with tomatoes, carrots, red onions, egg, maple lardons and Roquefort cheese.

Now that your tastebuds are ready for more, add an appetizer like filet mignon steak tartare, served with puffed rice chips and pickle shallots; lobster bisque with cognac; jumbo lump crab cake with chive beurre blanc; or ridiculously addictive A5 Japanese wagyu carpaccio, accented with pickled beech mushrooms and olive oil. A particular highlight here is the pepper-crusted roasted bacon, so decadent with bourbon barrel maple syrup and a root beer glaze.

Who’s ready for a steak? You can go traditional at Vic & Anthony’s with a 40-ounce tomahawk, Prime ribeye or porterhouse, but for that next-level experience, definitely check out the A5 program, including the A5 Kobe Hyogo Prefecture (100% Tajima Kobe beef) or the A5 Japanese wagyu filet mignon. You may never look at steaks the same way again.

Other entrées are certainly equally deserving of your attention, including fried lobster mac and cheese, piled high with 5 ounces of lobster tail and a lobster cheese sauce. There’s also a superb lamb chop, pan-roasted chicken and roasted salmon.

Do not make the mistake of avoiding dessert here. Once you see the restaurant’s In the Round arrive at your table, you’ll forget how full you are. It’s a large chocolate sphere over which hot caramel sauce is poured, melting away the chocolate and revealing a sweet treat inside.
